How will you approach 2019 compared to 2018? - Mon 31, Dec 2018 20:16:00 by Shihan
A new year is usually with new hopes and challenges.
As a karateka, what will you seek in your training?
Maybe set a few goals:
Could you do more press-ups? More sit-ups? But why?
Press-ups create a great challenge and as a compound exercise you'll get stronger arms and chest. Your overall fitness will improve.
Could you become more flexible? But why?
To be able to kick higher with less chance of a muscle strain is one reason. Many just enjoy seeing their feet whizzing up to head height with some cool karate kicks. For those competing, head kicks score the maximum of three points per kick. It can also make you more formidable to spar or compete against.
Will you learn a new kata?
With just 12 katas in Goju Ryu Karate, there is a lot of depth hidden within. Is a new kata your aim? Or is it to learn something NEW within the kata you think you already know?
Will you be aiming at another belt? Will it be yellow, orange, red, green, blue, purple, brown or the much coveted BLACK BELT? Remember, YOUR own dojo, The "Oxford Karate Academy" has historically developed many Black Belts, some who have gone on to become Karate Senseis themselves.
Set your goals and share them with your fellow Karate students at Oxford Karate Academy. Share your desire to improve with your instructors. If you're a child, your parents should be pushing you forward towards the success that those who work hard achieve. Remember "The ONLY place success comes before work, is in the dictionary".
